Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. Street View images are the copyright of Google. Congratulations for this fascinating blog! I just discovered it and I am looking forward to browsing through the archives and discovering you new posts. I write myself a blog about ghost signs and mosaics and posted a few months ago a picture of the painted sign for Strike's Stores. I have updated it to include a link to your post. I hope you don't mind. I've also included a direct link to your blog from the list of blogs I follow.
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Sebastien
Local to me and as another collector of ghostsign photos I was intrigued to read the actual wording on the sign. Sorry to tell that during a recent refurb of the prperty the contractors spent some time trying to remove all trace of the painted sign.
ReplyDeleteIt is now completely unreadable but people who look for these things will know that a sign was once there.
