Hampstead, London, Heath Street circa 1920. Postcard by Degen / Lewis. Surprisingly little has changed except the volume of traffic. Express Dairy is now Tesco Express. The clock tower in the distance housed the fire station until 1915. Click the postcard to enlarge.
Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. Street View images are the copyright of Google. Barking, Essex, The Bull Hotel, c1918
Barking, Essex, The Bull Hotel, c1918. There are flags up outside the Bull Hotel, but I don't know what they are commemorating, possibly the end of The Great War. I've had this postcard for ages but ws unable to find the location until now. The pub was rebuilt in 1925 and has now closed down, possibly for good. Postcard by an unknown publisher.
