Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. Street View images are the copyright of Google. Bracknell, Berkshire, Station Road c1912
Bracknell, Berkshire, Station Road circa 1912. The building on the left, Station Hotel, is thankfully still there. It is now called The Goose. The buildings in the middle have long since gone. The building in front of the chimney has a sign on the window that says 'Fuller, Story & Co, Order Office' which would indicate that it was a subsidiary of the main Fuller, Story & Co brewers in Maidenhead. This postcard is unusual in that the modern Street View scene is busier than the old postcard. Postcard by W. H. Applebee of Ashford. Click the postcard to enlarge.

Quite a contrast, especially when you turn around in Google Streetview and see such a massive modern office block. Looks like a LOT of earth was moved around to level the road. Horses had less complicated needs.
ReplyDeleteThe structures in the center have since a long time ago gone. Pay Someone To Write My Essay The structure before the chimney stack has a sign on the window.
