Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Gee, I kind of like what they did to the old building in recent years! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteSomehow, the pink doesn't quite do it for me - I prefer it in black-and-white, I think.
ReplyDeleteYou know how an old pub always captures my interest. Cheers Howard.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how little has changed although changing the direction of the entry steps certainly was a good move for the sake of safety.
ReplyDeleteThe backside of the building shows a For Sale sign. I agree the pink is too "twee" as well as the patterned plaster, but the postcard view is also a re-muddled building too with poor stucco covering the old timbers. Sad that the old sandy lane couldn't have been preserved too. Wouldn't you like to find an interior photo of the pub?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great name for a pub; glad the building survived even if the pub closed so long ago.
ReplyDeleteYes - great name for the pub! Perhaps the pink and geometric design would look better if they didn't clash with the old red brick foundation.
ReplyDeleteI hope the folks who live in the little pink house eventually find our post with the old image. I have often thought of sending photos of houses I lived in to current residents just to let them know what it once looked like.
ReplyDeleteVery, very cool! I never thought of doing this, thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm adopted, but Coddenham is in my heart as my Mother Eileen Dorothy Day lived in The Tower, Shrubland Park
