Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Oh, this is great! At first I thought the roof was thatched but I think it's just ivy.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure those are fishing poles? They look like guns to me...maybe they're going on a fox hunt! :)
Oh I need to visit there. Wonderful looking pub and - from the exterior shot - it doesn't look as if it has been messed about too much.
ReplyDeleteA great pub that looks much better with the horse and cart outside than with the modern motor car.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly hasn't changed much. As for calling it "Ye Olde George," this may be more facetious than wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very interesting building. Would love to see what the surrounding area was like when it was originally built. I'd also love to have seen it at night with the windows glowing candle light.
ReplyDeleteGreat then and now pictures! Preservation is a good thing. Love that last picture. I think one guy is holding a tripod, the other a gun the young boy in back has a stick or a bushwhacking rod or something and there is a ghost standing with him. It's all very interesting!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I couldn't see the street view on this one, but I certainly like the old views. I also really appreciate the close-ups. Thanks for doing that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful vintage postcard and to see it today is wonderful. I could visit that pub any time. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful building. I'm so glad they haven't modernized it.

I would love to visit this pub; I really enjoyed going to the pubs in the UK when I spent a few years in the 1970's. It's so good that it has been altered much outside, if at all.
ReplyDeleteNot only did they take out the little window, they added two more close to either end under the roof! This postcard is so clear -- to be able to see so much detail when enlarged. It's great the building is still in existence. I love old buildings.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderfully preserved! And I adore the cart and bicycle in the photo!
