Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. Street View images are the copyright of Google. Oh my goodness look at that sky! I usually like the yester year photo more, but not today!
ReplyDeleteThe postcard photographers did a great job of capturing not just the scenes in their neighbourhoods, but also the 'atmosphere' (for wont of a better word) of the times. It's hard to express but these old views depict more than just the visual.
ReplyDeleteThere's a Union Jack amongst the clutter in the Post Office doorway. Could it be for the June 1911 coronation of George V ?
