Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. Street View images are the copyright of Google. Fascinating! Love the "then" and "now!"
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to have a fountain like that where I live.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how many of these old fountains still function. Great then and now as always!
ReplyDeleteThe "now" is surprisingly much like "then" - now that's something you don't see every day!
ReplyDeleteNow is a bit more built up but still more alike than many we've seen.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you told us about the inscription Howard, I couldn't read it with Google. Good match for 'then' and 'now.'
ReplyDeleteSo this source is producing natural water for 135 years already. Incredible!
ReplyDeleteWhen do we ever read a sign that suggests we take of anytihing freely? Nice that it is still there!
ReplyDeleteI would certainly stop there to fill up on mineral water.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see a spot that hasn't changed very much - that doesn't happen often. I enjoyed using the Google viewer to circle around and see the entire area around the fountain.
ReplyDeleteIt's so amazing how that fountain didn't change over the years. It looks just the same.
ReplyDeleteNancy
An almost artistic photo if the view of the girl at the spring was cropped closer. The spring seems to flow quite freely then and now, but where does the surplus water go? Is it part of the Thames watershed?
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the two images. Such a shame that a road with cars has to mar such a beauty-spot. the first image is so idyllic, yet the video clip, has that stamp of "improvement".
ReplyDeleteWe have a place much like this not too far from where I live. Yours is lovely then and now!
