Raynes Park, south-west London, Carters Tested Seeds Factory circa 1913. The Google Street View shows the approximate location of the Carters Tested Seeds factory in Raynes Park. The factory closed in 1970 and was replaced by the current housing estate. More old photos of Carters Tested Seeds can be found here.

W H Applebee should get together with Postcardy’s ‘Applebee’ - that would be a buzz!
ReplyDeleteThat building looks like anything but a factory to me.
ReplyDeleteOnce again the old photo beats the modern one.
ReplyDeleteOh Howard, you've driven me to drink...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful building. And that garden! I guess it should be spectacular since it's their seeds.

It won't take long for that housing estate to go to seed. The Carters must wonder what they did to deserve losing that great building.
ReplyDeleteGeewhiz -- that's hardly an improvement!
ReplyDeleteToo bad that they replaced that wonderful old building with what they did!

What a fantastic building. This has to be one of the most tragic comparisons between 'then' and 'now'. Such a loss!
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting architectural ghost. The designer had freedom to add some whimsical elements. What would we call that style? A little bit of Greco-Roman temple but with some Indian or Chinese influence. Maybe just Oriental fantasy?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for that top postcard. I remember always being impressed by the building whether seen from a bus (No 72 or 152) or bike. I've linked to this from my blogt of my uyncle's 70-year-old diary: see http://myunclefred.blogspot.co.uk/
