Worthing, Sussex, West Tarring High Street c1913

Worthing, Sussex, West Tarring High Street circa 1913. West Tarring is just north of Worthing. The half-timbered building on the right is now a restaurant called The Parsonage. On the right we can see the George and Dragon pub. Postcard by W. H. Applebee. Click the postcard to enlarge.

  1. Mr. Applebee must have snapped this one in a hurry, since the people are walking away from the camera and the Tudor era building seems incidental to the photo. The present day Parsonage seems better preserved for the additional century, but it's strange that both pub websites offer no history of the buildings. The beer looks good though.

    1. Hi Mike, I think you're right about the picture being taken in a hurry, the two fellows walking away from the camera do balance the composition and make it a far more interesting photo than it would have been without them. Pub websites in the UK, just like church websites, rarely mention their history. A pity really.
