Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Barking, Essex, The Bull Hotel, c1918. There are flags up outside the Bull Hotel, but I don't know what they are commemorating, possibly the end of The Great War. I've had this postcard for ages but ws unable to find the location until now. The pub was rebuilt in 1925 and has now closed down, possibly for good. Postcard by an unknown publisher. Yiewsley High Street, showing Marlborough Cinema, c1926

Yiewsley is a town just north of Heathrow Airport. The postcard (by W H Applebee) shows the Marlborough Cinema, opened in 1923, renamed to the Ritz in 1956 and closed in 1960. The films being shown are East Lynne and My Son. The cinema stood almost opposite the Town Hall. Click the postcard to enlarge.

Yiewsley Town Hall, c1930

Yiewsley is a town just north of Heathrow Airport. The town hall was built in the late 1920s and was used up until the 1950s. It stood almost opposite the Marlborough Cinema (later the Ritz).
