Hillingdon, Middlesex, circa 1906 and 1912. In these two postcards we can see the Red Lion pub which appears to be largely untouched. However the surrounding area is much less rural. The road on the right has been cleared to widen the Uxbridge Road. We can see a tram in the postcard coming from Uxbridge. The photographic postcard was produced by W. H. Applebee of Ashford. Postcard showing people with Edwardian Hats c1910

The theme for this week's Sepia Saturday blog is 'hats', so I thought I'd show this postcard from my collection. It has a Tooting postmark (South London). I have no idea who the people are, where they are or what they are doing. I think they may be by a river, waiting for a boat to take them somewhere. There are boxes stacked up next to them, at least one of them containing vintage wine. A typical view of Edwardian hats is on display. From left, a flat cap, a boater and a homburg. The ladies sport the elaborate hats of the era. Click the postcard to enlarge.
