Aldershot, Hampshire, The Hippodrome c1913

Aldershot, Hampshire, The Hippodrome circa 1913. Designed by Bertie Crewe and opened in 1913. The Hippodrome was demolished in 1961. The Hippodrome Business Centre now stands on the site. Some of the acts we can see on the posters on this postcard are Leonard Gaultier's Animated Toy Shop, Spry and Montie, Alf Chester and The Comedy Meisters. The Hippodrome opened twice nightly, 6.30 and 8.50. Postcard published by W. H. Applebee of Ashford. Click the postcard to enlarge.

  1. "Hippodrome" is such an interesting word. I wonder why the Hippodrome was torn down while the building across the street survived.

  7. What a contrast between the two buildings. The original building had such style and detail. The modern building can't compare.
