Broadwater, Near Worthing, Sussex c1913

Broadwater, Near Worthing, Sussex c1913. In this photo by W. H. Applebee we can see an old horse-drawn bus. Within just a few years of this photo being taken all of the buses were replaced by more efficient motor buses. For a really good horse-drawn bus postcard you may be interested in this post - Putney Horse Bus. As always, click the postcard to enlarge.

  2. One of my favorite photos. Have you noticed the ghosts? There is a carriage without wheels behind the shoulder of the guy leaning on the railings, and there is a ghost going up the stairs of the bus. Of course these were due to the long exposure needed for early photographs. I like to think that the guy on the railings is out of breath having run along to be part of the photograph.
